Hello everyone! Welcome to my shoes. Today, I was trying to think of something new I’ve been doing while quarantined, but I was having some difficulties. So I decided to write about an old experience. Writing a book.

My First Book
To be brief, I started writing my first book back in 2014. Then in early 2015, my aunt surprised me by putting it on a self publishing website. Little me was swimming at her house, completely unaware that she was about to hand me an unassuming shoe box full, of the first official copies of my book. Needless to say, I was ecstatic.
Now, after much procrastinating, I’m almost done writing my second book. But I can’t welcome this new addition to my library without first acknowledging the story that started it all. Paradox. Giving all of the details of its birth, to its death.
The Beginnings of Paradox
Now there are many ways to start a book. Some authors swear that you know the plot first, whereas others say all you need is a scene in your head. For me, it started with my main character, Katerina. I was flying to New York, when little me began thinking about time travel.
I had always been obsessed with the idea of time travel. I had an entire notebook dedicated to my many theories, and plans for building a time machine. But on this plane ride, I put someone else in my time machine, and allowed her to go wherever she wanted. Because I let my mind wander, and go to places it had never been before, a story was born, and I didn’t even know it yet.
Paradox as a Toddler
So, when I got home, I forgot about it. I completely, and entirely, forgot about it. Call it life, call it procrastination, Paradox was not in my head. Then one day, I looked at my old tablet, and stumbled across my Paradox notes on a third party notebook app. My mind began to race with the old scenes I had concocted on that plane ride to New York.
I whipped out my laptop, and began plunking away at the keys. Now, I hated writing before this. School taught me that writing was a torture device used to cause tears and agony. So it will forever be a mystery to me, why this book even happened.
Paradox Beginning to Run
Night after night, I popped my headphones on, and typed until I got a headache from staring at my screen. My parents sat in amazement watching me, because this was one of the few times I sat still for longer than 5 minutes.
I didn’t really have a plan, or a plot written down. I knew where the story was starting and ending, and as I wrote, I kind of made things up as I went. I didn’t even know who the villain was until about half way through the book. But even though I didn’t have a perfect plan written down with hidden sub plots twists, I couldn’t stop writing. It was kind of freeing to finally be able to show someone a world that had never been seen before.
Paradox Grown up
After the book was written, I gave it to my grandma and aunt to look over, just for laughs. Honestly, I didn’t think anything would come of it. They helped me edit it, then as a surprise gift, my aunt put it on a self publishing website called Blurb. I was so exited! Just seeing the stack of books gave me chills.
But that wasn’t the end! I contacted a teacher that helped to lessen my hatred of English papers, and my book impressed him. So he offered to help my book get a little attention in the media. I was interviewed a couple of times, and I was able to have a book signing at my local book store.
Paradox’s Death
Paradox is still around. I could never let my first book die. However, there are times where I would like to deny its existence. Not that it is a bad story, but seeing how much my writing has improved in my second book, I can’t help but cringe when I read my book, and think of all the things I would do differently.
Never the less, I will always love Paradox, for the simple fact that it is my debut book. Without Paradox, I wouldn’t have my love of writing. I wouldn’t have the confidence in my words that I have now. And I wouldn’t have been able to share this world with other people.
That’s It!
So this is the story of my first book Paradox. A time travel adventure novelette. Full of daring do’s and a thought provoking plot. At the end of this post I’ve attached a link to my book on the website Blurb. I put so much effort and love into this book, and I can’t wait to introduce you to Katerina’s world of Paradox.
Thank you so much for reading this post! I hope you enjoyed hearing about my first writing journey. I post every other Tuesday, so please subscribe if you are interested in joining me again as I explore the world one step at a time.
My Book Paradox:
Lol. I too have a love hate relationship with Paradox. Gee I wonder why. I only read it a million times. Hehe. So excited to get this next one done!!! Good job.
Paradox was a fun experience for me as your grandmother. I realized as I watched you enter a world I have loved for decades, that you were entering an exciting new world where the only limit there is, is your imagination. I am so looking forward to your next book!
