If it wasn’t enough that I had to go to the dentist, now I’m fighting against dental danger with the help of a completely paranoid man. How could this day get any worse you might ask? Well, that’s exactly what I was thinking as I crawled through an airduct behind a man who smelled like he hadn’t showered in months. If Steve wouldn’t have liked him so much, I never would have followed him.

My New Dental Danger
The paranoid man jumped from the air duct into a small, cobbled together room. A fan broke the light beams as it turned over the room. But honestly, no amount of light could’ve done this room justice. Piles of books were scattered across the floor with Einstein looking calculations strung on the walls. Not to mention the half broken bed and flickering TV in the corner.
The man knelt down, pouring over his books, occasionally glancing back at me.
After some time had passed, I finally asked, “So, are you going to tell me what’s going on?”
“SHHHHHHH,” he urged, nearly putting his finger on my lips.
I leaned away to say the least.
“Look, I need to get out of here and see a real dentist, this tooth is killing me. Could you help me find an exit?” I asked as I held my mouth.
“Did you not hear me!?” He questioned with a rabid look in his eyes. “Your whining might carry through the vents.”
“Whining!? All I wanted was to have a tooth removed, and get home. I didn’t mean to get wrapped up in whatever’s going on here. By this point I’m almost willing to skip the tooth pulling part and skip to just going home. I mean, why was that guy even trying to stick a robotic thing in my mouth?”
The man whipped around and leaned in, asking, “He already tried to probe you?? Do you still have the piece??”
“Why would I have held…. Actually, I think he was able to stick it on my tooth before I got out.”
Oh boy did I regret saying that.
Will The Dental Dangers Never End?
The man tackled me to the ground as he pulled a pair of pliers from his back pocket. Ripping my mouth open, he thrust the pliers in, and with a swift jerk, yanked out the flashing tooth.
He stared at it, completely enamored, as he wandered away from me.
“A lot of help you were,” I moaned at Steve, who was comfortably lying on a stack of news papers.
I wobbled to a sitting position on the floor and coddled my jaw.
“Your tooth was a necessary sacrifice that will be the turning point in our battle,” he added.
I could have done without clocking my head on the floor, but I gotta admit, I was kind of a relief to have the tooth out. My mouth still throbbed, but at least all my mouth had to do was heal now.
“Well, if my tooth is such a great turning point, maybe you could show your gratitude by explaining to me what in the world is going on!?” I asked.
He sighed, then answered, “This is no ordinary dentistry. No ordinary dentist even. This man has been probing his patients to commit heinous crimes around the world. I’ve been watching him, and living in here for the last few years, taking notes on his every move.”
“So, you’re a stalker,” I interrupted.
He let out a mechanical laugh then continued, “Not everyone believes. But I think you will after you see this.”
He pulled out a file from under the yellow pillow on his bed, and threw it into my lap.
The Facts
I’m starting to develop a complex here, because these people just expect me to know what I’m looking at.
This file had pages upon pages of words, lines, and random gibberish that looked like hieroglyphics.
I looked up at the man and asked, “You just ripped out my tooth and now you expect me to know what this is?”
He sighed in annoyance and replied, “These documents are proof of their illegal and inhuman acts!”
“Inhuman? You mean-“
But before I could finish, he interrupted, “They’re all aliens. Sent here to probe our minds and slowly take over our world. Why else do you think they were trying to put this thing in your mouth?”
He held up my tooth with the blinking red and green lights. Only, this time, they started blinking faster, and faster.
“Um, does that mean something?” I asked.
Blood drained from the man’s face, and Steve jumped to his feet growling in the direction of the vent.
As I turned around, the entire wall gave way with a flash of blue light.
He, he was right, there were aliens. Their green skin shimmered as their black bug eyes moved closer.
My heart pounded and I grabbed onto Steve, pulling him away from the impending danger. But they kept coming, closer, and closer, and-
Learning My True Dental Danger
I slowly opened my eyes to a bright light hanging overhead.
I glanced off the side of my reclined chair, and saw Steve waiting patiently for my attention.
“Wha-what….happened?” I stammered as I tried to to shake myself awake.
I then saw the paranoid man coming closer. However, this time, he was wearing a white coat with a clipboard and a name tag that read “Tim.”
“This morning you pushed me away from a bus,” Tim answered. “I asked what I could do to repay you, but before you answered, you started holding your jaw in pain. I told you I was a dentist and that I could remove that tooth for you off books. It seems though, that when you saw the extraction tools, you passed out.”
I squinted at him, and glanced around the normal looking dentist office.
There were no aliens, no lights, and not a homeless man in sight.
Steve put his front paws on the bed and happily barked at me.
“Oh, and it seems your pup here was quite worried about you,” Tim added.
Still shaking a little from the alien memories, I cautiously reached down and scratched Steve’s head.
Tim smiled and continued, “We’ll give you a few minutes to wake up.”
With that, Tim and the hygienist walked out of the room.
Feeling Steve’s soft fur and warm head helped me come to grips with reality. The reality that was, I had a tooth removed, and I had not been probed by aliens.
I laughed out loud and said to Steve, “I should have known that was all a dream. My insurance would never cover dental.”
That’s It!
