Has anyone ever told you there’s only one way to learn a thing? Or maybe, here’s the best way to learn a thing? Has anyone ever told you there can be more than one way to learn a thing? So many times we’re put into a box so that we can learn exactly how everyone else is taught. But that doesn’t always work. Going with everyone else can lead to frustration, and giving up. Which we don’t want! So, I wanted to share four fool proof methods to learn a thing because, each one of us has a different way of learning, and I want to help you discover what yours is!

Learn A Thing By Listening
Listen to songs in your target language. To a teacher as they explain how this strange calculus thing is supposed to work. To podcasts that help with public speaking. Listen, listen, listen.
More audio resources than ever before, are available and ready to be listened too. Want to learn Korean? You can listen to it on your commute. Want to learn how to sing? Listen to how the musicians today, hold out their words and enunciate their vowels. Honestly, word of mouth is one of the oldest ways to learn something, so it’s only fitting that this is my first learning tip. It’s second only to actually doing things yourself but we’ll get into that later.
Learn A Thing By Watching/Reading
Use TV to learn! Need I say more? Between YouTube and just plain cable, so many new videos are popping up daily that are designed to help you learn. Especially for those of you who are learning to cook, sew, or just plain adult. Keep a close eye on your favorite social media channels as well, because I know I’ve certainly found some inspiring videos that have explained a lot to a complete noob like myself.
Maybe TV isn’t you thing. That’s ok! Your next best option, is reading. In that case, you’re already on the right track by reading this very blog post! Millions of other blogs posts are available, as well as articles on social media, and good old fashioned books that will help you on your way. Don’t ever doubt the power of just sitting down and reading your topic of choice. Let your mind wander through the different aspects of the subject, and you’ll be a master at it in no time!
Get Your Hands Dirty!
How can I mention ways to learn something and not mention actually doing it yourself! With anything you’re learning, you can get your hands dirty by either putting your own spin on the project, or simply doing it yourself. Like, baking that cake you keep seeing on Facebook, or writing down that math problem and dissecting it step by step.
What ever you are working on, if you’re struggling, if your inner perfectionist is standing in your way, just jump in! At some point in your learning journey, you’ll have to do the thing yourself. And if the other methods of learning aren’t helping you move to this final step, try just jumping into the final step! You may find it easier to see what you need to work on, or even how much you’ve improved. Giving you the inspiration to keep pushing forwards.
Learn A Thing By Teaching Someone Else
This sounds a bit strange doesn’t it? I mean, you’re still trying to learn the thing. So how are you supposed to teach someone else about it? Well, how? That is exactly the question you want to ask. Look at the thing you’re trying to learn, whether its how to bake a cake, studying for tests, or trying to learn Hindi. How would you teach it to someone else?
Alright now, sit down, and look at your project. What are you trying to learn exactly? Now, pretend like you’re giving a lecture, or teaching a class about that topic the next day. How would you explain these things to someone in your exact position right now? That’s what you write down. That’s what you use for your notes. Pretend you are going to teach someone this topic, and you’ll be able to remember this information, like you were actually the teacher that taught it! I actually taught an ASL class before I was conversational in the language, and before I knew it, deaf ones were finally able to understand me, and I them!
That’s It!
