#23
Well, this day certainly wasn’t going as planned. Yesterday we were saving Cassy, today we’re in a new terrain known as Russia. With all the things that have been happening lately, I really should just keep my passport and a pocket knife on me.
At this point in the day, Beck, Steve, and I, were being led to every supervillain’s dream home. I’m pretty sure this guy summoned a storm just for the occasion too.

The Mansion On The New Terrain
As we made it through the doors, we could see the perfect marble tile and grand finishes covering every inch of the three-story mansion.
“Welcome, welcome!” a thick Russian accent greeted.
Beck and I looked down a dark hallway, and found a gluttonous man practically bouncing to meet us. With a turkey leg in one hand, he adjusted his red robe with the other, and made his way over.
“Welcome to my humble home,” he added.
Steve’s ears fell back as he began growling.
“Oh no no no. Your little pooch here doesn’t seem to like me.”
“Well,” I interrupted, “Sometimes you can prematurely judge someone. So why don’t you tell us exactly who you are?”
Beck looked at me, completely shocked by my bluntness.
The man stepped back, then answered, “I am Karp Vlasov. The leader of these brave and noble soldiers. And you, I’ve heard, are the stowaways.”
“Well, it’s a funny story actually,” I ended prematurely expecting to get cut off.
“And?” Karp prompted.
“And…” I looked at Beck and felt like he was trying to tell me to shut up, but I didn’t listen and continued, “We were trying to free my neighbors daughter and then we ended up helping a veterinarian, but we couldn’t get away from the gang who captured them, so we hid in a crate, and they sent that crate to this new terrain. Honestly, this is all an accident.”
Karp nodded his head and put a crooked finger to his chin.
“An accident you say,” his voice trailed. “You know, I don’t believe in accidents. But in your case, maybe the universe just hates you, because well, we all know you’ve seen too much now.”
Stuck On The New Terrain
He snapped his fingers and three burly men came up behind us. Two grabbed our arms.
“No wait, please!” I begged. “We don’t know anything about you or your organization I swear!”
“Comet will you just shut up already!?” Beck demanded.
“You might want to listen to your friend there,” Karp agreed as we were hauled down the dark hallway, and thrown in, what looked like a basement.
One guard stood there with us as we banged on the door. We then turned, and found the guard petting Steve.
“Um, hi there,” I attempted.
Beck kicked my leg and I gave a little yelp.
The guard stood straight up, and pretended nothing had happened.
“Do, you like dogs?” I asked as I walked down the short steps.
He stood silent.
“Do you speak English?” I offered.
He looked away, and held his thumb and finger out, symbolizing, just a little.
“Oh, um… hey Beck!” I called.
“Can only read it, can’t speak it,” he answered as he sat on the steps.
Glancing behind the guard, I saw a small wooden chair with a thin book sitting on it. I ran to it, and the guard gave me a panicked look.
“Beck! Do any of these words mean friend?” I asked as I brought the book to him.
He sighed, then flipped through the pages as the guard nervously watched us handle his book.
“Well, alright this word,” Beck announced as he pointed to the characters.
I held my finger below the word and showed it to the guard. Then, I moved the book back and forth trying to tell him that we wanted to be friends with him. I was hoping really hard that we could make a friend on this new terrain.
Can They Escape This New Terrain?
He paused for a minute, then replied in a choppy way, “Ivan, name.”
I smiled and answered as I held my hand on my chest, “My name is, Comet. Comet.”
I brought my hand to Beck and said his name, and finally, I knelt down to Steve, who had made himself at home by this point, and said his name.
Ivan immediately began calling, “Steve? Steve! Steve.”
The pup’s ears perked up, and he wandered over to the half sized giant.
Ivan began petting him vigorously and grinning from ear to ear as he echoed, “Steve, Steve, Steve.”
As the heart warming moment was in full swing however, the door handle began jiggling, and Ivan panicked once again. He jumped to his feet, and wedged his chair under the handle.
“Wow, all it took was a quick introduction and this guy’s already on board with helping us?” Beck commented.
Ivan looked at his watch, then at us.
“Trust?” He finally suggested.
“Trust,” I echoed not entirely sure what he meant.
With that, he picked up Steve, and we began running to the back of the surprisingly large basement.
