#22
We sat for hours crammed in our little crate, left to think about the mystery trip we had gotten ourselves into.
“I sure hope we get out of here soon,” I commented.
“Why? So we can meet our impending doom sooner?” Beck quipped.
“No, I have to pee.”
Beck glared at me and face palmed.

Part One Of The Mystery Trip
Before we knew it, our ears were popping and we began bouncing in our crate. The tires hit the runway and we were tossed about like marbles in a plastic bag. I’m pretty sure I saw Beck even eat part of Steve’s tail. Once we were finally on the ground, three men came and lifted the crate into a warehouse off the side of the airfield.
Beck rolled himself onto his toes and told me to do the same. The three men then pulled out their respective crowbars, and popped the lid of the crate. When I say we popped out like one of those wind-up toys, that’s really an understatement. All three of the men fell back, completely stunned. Beck, Steve, and I then bolted for the open garage door, and ran alongside the air field.
“Where are we going!?” I cried.
“Somewhere else!” Beck called back.
Eventually, we slipped under the fence that bordered the airfield, and found a fast food restaurant where I could finally go to the bathroom.
Eventually I came out and found Beck sitting with Steve and the look on his face wasn’t any too promising.
Part 2 Of The Mystery Trip
“So where are we?” I asked.
Beck slowly rolled his eyes up to me and handed me a brochure.
“Where’d you get this?” I asked.
“They had them in the building.”
After attempting to read the print for a few minutes, I finally said, “I can’t read this.”
“That’s because it’s in Russian. It says welcome to Magadan. There’s even a helpful little map on the back.”
“Wait you know Russian?! That’s awesome!”
Beck squinted at me, then sarcastically answered, “I can only read a little. But that’s not the point. Did you not hear what I said? Were in Russia!!!”
He jumped out of his seat and threw his arms out, “Were on the Pacific Ocean side of Russia! We are half way across the globe!”
I stared at the map as the information finally started sinking in.
“So, Russia. Great, and I don’t have my passport,” I jeered trying to lighten the mood.
When Beck didn’t answer, I assumed it was because he was getting ready to scream, but when I looked up, I recognized the three men we had just run away from. They were standing around Beck each with knives at the ready.
“Mr?” He asked politely.
“Comet,” I answered completely terrified. “And this is Steve, and the man you’re holding there is Beck.”
“Ah, well it’s a pleasure to meet you all. Now men, why don’t we take these spies back to our headquarters.”
“Wait, spies?” I attempted as they picked me off my chair. “No no, you’ve got it wrong! We were running for our lives and hid in that crate! We’re not spies I swear!”
Beck kicked my leg and cautioned through gritted teeth, “Shut up!”
I listened to him, and we were put into the back of a semi-truck. They slammed the doors in our faces, and within seconds we were thrown back with the motion of the truck.
Part 3 Of The Mystery Trip
“Again!?” Beck cried. “Can’t we see where we’re going for once!?”
He continued banging on the door for a while and as the pounding echoed through the hollow container, the guilt started setting in. If only I could have done something different. Anything. Did Cassy even make it back to her mom?
Almost as if he could read my thoughts, Steve laid down next to me and put his head on my lap.
“I’m sorry buddy,” I mumbled as I scratched his ears.
Beck turned around and I looked up.
“I’m sorry to you too. It’s my fault were in this mess. I know you said we should turn around; I know you said we shouldn’t keep going. Now were stuck in Russia.”
Beck sighed and sat across from me.
“Comet, well, this is your fault. But Cassy has the best chance of being with her mom now, and technically were not dead yet. So you can’t really be that bad at making decisions.”
“Is that supposed to make me feel better?”
“Yes?”
I chuckled and answered, “Well it’s working a little.”
Beck grinned and leaned his head back on the wall.
“Hey,” I added, “Thanks for sticking with me. You know most people would’ve jumped ship by now.”
“Somebody’s gotta keep you alive,” Beck quipped.
Before our heart-warming moment could continue, we made a sharp turn, and were finally given some fresh air.
“Our leader of operations would like a word,” the man from before informed.
He said that like we had a choice but by how the guards dragged us out of the truck, we didn’t really.
Turns out they had taken us to a cliffside mansion. The real villain type with the creepy fountain, and drop into the ocean kind of view.
That’s It!
